NMILC Border Narrative AR Artivism Project

In collaboration with New Mexico Immigrant Law Center (NMILC), we created several Augmented Reality “Artivism” pieces for Immigrant Law Legislation.

NMILC

As an art collective ourselves, we were always drawn to the power of storytelling, and the ways in which art can connect us to different experiences and perspectives. With the help of the wonderful and passionate people from NMILC, we focus on sharing the stories of immigrant youth, who often face unique challenges and barriers as they navigate their new homes and communities.

Collaborative Story Telling

With our actively involved community, we decided to embark on a project together that would allow us to explore these stories in a meaningful and impactful way. Thanks to the incredible help of everyone at NMILC, we worked closely with young immigrants from a variety of backgrounds, listening to their stories and experiences and using their voices to inspire our work.

Art + Activism = “Artivism“

The result was a series of four art pieces that each told a different story of an immigrant youth. We used a variety of mediums and techniques to bring these stories to life, incorporating vibrant colors and bold imagery that reflected the strength and resilience of the young people we were showcasing.

AR Experience

But we didn't stop there. We wanted to create an experience that would allow people to truly immerse themselves in these stories, and so we decided to incorporate an AR element that featured superheroes. We felt that this was a powerful metaphor for the strength and courage that these young people exhibit every day, even in the face of adversity and challenge.

Lasting Impact

Through this project, we hoped to create a deeper understanding and appreciation for the immigrant experience, and to inspire others to see the beauty and potential in all people, regardless of their background or origin. We believe that art has the power to bring people together, to bridge divides, and to create a sense of community and belonging - and this project was our way of contributing to that vision.
